Who We Like
–COMIC BOOK CREATORS–
Here are some of our favorite creators, and links to their homepages. See something you like? Stop on by the store, and we’ll be sure to hook you up!
Geoff Johns has been one of the driving forces behind most of DC’s recent crossovers, such as Infinite Crisis, 52, and the Sinestro Corps War. He’s also recently had great runs on Action Comics, and Green Lantern. Really looking forward to Blackest Night, and Legion of Three Worlds.
Grant Morrison is another of the helmers behind DC’s recent mega-crossovers. Worked on 52, and is currently writing both Final Crisis, and the Batman event Batman R.I.P. You might also remember some his work on Batman: Arkham Asylum, The Invisibles, All-Star Superman, New X-men, and a very interesting run on Animal Man. Those Scots can really write comics!
Now someone those in the Marvel Universe may know better, Brian Michael Bendis is one of the minds behind Secret Invasion, the big cross-over this summer from Marvel. Some other work you might have heard of: Jinx, Powers, Secret War, House of M, and runs on The New Avengers, Daredevil, and Ultimate Spider-man. We also think he’s really a Skrull.
A super-star in independent comics, Robert Kirkman seems to write freakin’ everything! If you’re looking for some great and original series to start reading, you can’t go wrong with Invincible, The Walking Dead, or Astounding Wolf-man from Image. Also, check out his main stream work: Marvel Zombies, a run on Ultimate X-men, and The Irredeemable Ant-Man. Good, fun comics.
Alan Moore is a name that you NEED to know if you read comics. His list of published work is immense: Watchmen, Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, The Killing Joke, From Hell, Lost Girls, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Top Ten, Tom Strong….and it goes on. Stop in and check out some Alan Moore TPB’s — you won’t be disappointed.
Another name most people know well is Neil Gaiman. Probably best known for his amazing work on The Sandman for Vertigo, you should also check out Marvel 1602, Black Orchid, Death: the High Cost of Living, and Stardust. He is also an accomplished novelist, and fans should check out Neverwhere, American Gods, and Coraline.
Mike Mignola is a visionary creator, with a very unique style. He is best known for his work on Hellboy, which he created, along with the spin-offs of BPRD, Abe Sapien, and Lobster Johnson. You should also check out The Amazing Screw-On Head, Gotham By Gaslight, and he also did the covers for Batman: A Death in the Family, and did several character designs for DC Animation, including Mr. Freeze.
Eric Powell is another artist who has a very unique style and is instantly recognizable. His greatest and most popular work in The Goon, a gritty, funny, and unique comic with gangsters, zombies, hillbilly werewolves, and just about everything else you could think of.
Dan Leister is a really cool guy, a friend of the store, and a very talented artist. He worked on The Sire series, but is probably best know for his continuing gig as penciller for Zenescope’s Return to Wonderland. Check him out! Also, he did an awesome commission for Steve, which you can see here.
Jay Faerber, Like Robert Kirkman, seems to write everything. He’s got some great ongoing from Image: Noble Causes, Dynamo 5, and the new and exciting Gemini. Also, check out Dodge’s Bullets, and Firebirds.
Not really a comic book artist, but Colin really likes him. Sean Galloway, aka Cheeks, is an awesome character artist, illustrator, and designer. You might have seen his character work in the Hellboy Animated movies, and the New Spectacular Spider-man cartoon. Check him out!
